Creativity in Motion students will engage in embodied storytelling, using music and props to tell stories through movement. With current pop hits, tunes from popular musicals and even a few traditional song choices as our inspiration, students will be guided by a dance/movement therapist to use their creativity as they invent their own dance moves and incorporate those of other classmates! Students will also take turns acting out parts of a story and trying on different dance movements from characters within the story. Peer buddies will be an important component in this program as they embark on a creative journey together. Each session is created with a different focus and theme for both male and female students. No class is the same so students can continue to enroll in this fun, entertaining program each session.
This class was created to enhance students’ personal growth on many levels:
- Physical: develop range of motion, movement vocabulary, body awareness, and coordination
- Emotional: develop increased self-confidence through expression of thoughts, feelings, and ideas creatively through movement
- Social: develop social skills including natural conversation, turn taking, making eye contact, and teamwork
- Educational: develop knowledge of different musical stories including characters, storyline, and concepts
