Our main stage programming, Musical Theatre, serves students 10-22 years old. Using the stage as a platform, the focus of this program is to enhance social skills, develop emotional literacy ability, and increase self esteem. Over the course of 25 weeks, the students and their mentors practice character development, learn choreography, and perform stage work – all of which culminates into a full production for audiences of over 1,800 annually!
Depending upon chronological and developmental age, each child is appropriately placed into a class where they can achieve their maximum potential. Students are evaluated by our professional staff, to determine placement and appropriateness of the program. In an effort to build personal and artistic self-confidence, the focus is on ability and offers each child an opportunity to shine. Classes offer an array of theater and acting techniques and activities. These classes allow individuals the opportunity to sharpen their communication skills and find new ways to express themselves.
The students meet once a week for 25 weeks, which culminates into a fully mounted musical theatre production, complete with sets, costumes, microphones and props.
Our ultimate goal is to create specific opportunities for the children and teens with and without special needs to work together. Many times our students go on to join mainstream theatre in their high schools and beyond!
