As a parent…
Eight years ago I would have never imagined myself here. I had just given birth to a baby girl with developmental delays. As someone who has worked in theatre for over twenty years, I had looked forward to introducing my child to the world of performing arts. However, it was not possible to spend time in a dark theatre where the stimulation of the lights and sound were just too much for my child. My little bundle of joy had other plans for me!
Imagine my delight in finding Special Gifts Theatre (SGT)! Today, my eight year old girl is thriving in the Creative Drama Program. Each week, I watch her gather with peers and explore, interact, and discover the gifts each has to bring. It is a beautiful process to witness and I am in awe of how our children shine when given the opportunity.
As a Board member…
Wanting to give back, I joined the Board. I need to see and feel an organization’s heart and soul on the stage and the team succeeding. I am happy to report that Special Gifts Theatre not only meets the criteria, it excels above and beyond! The opportunities for our children are, in one word, irreplaceable. SGT has worked hard over the past 10 years to develop and maintain programs that enable children with special needs to thrive. How lucky I feel to be a part of this amazing team.
As a donor…
On behalf of the staff, students, peer mentors, volunteers, and the Board of Special Gifts Theatre, I want to thank you. Your past and continued support has enabled us to offer programs that provide each child their own special opportunity to shine. While these are trying times and our economy has dealt each of us a heavy hand, it warms my heart that the staff, donors, and participants of Special Gifts Theatre refuse to compromise the integrity of each program serving our children. Instead, everyone is working harder together!
Bravo to our future stars who are experiencing irreplaceable opportunities that will continue to enrich their lives as they move onward and upward!
Bravo to each of you for supporting SGT. You are supporting what I consider to be the most important part of our lives: our children. I see firsthand the difference you are making through your support; I see it as a theatre professional, as a Board
member, and most importantly as a parent of a child benefitting from these programs.
